Stunned medics described his injuries as “horrific” revealing he eventually died from massive blood loss.

The victim was found in the middle of a field in the historic city of La Laguna, in the north of the holiday isle, in the early hours of this morning.

Some reports suggest he was still alive at the time and was calling for help as a number of people said they had heard screams.

The man was found by the police and fire brigade shortly after they were alerted at 1am.

He had suffered knife and bite wounds and had already bled out.

Part of one of his arms had been chewed off by two dogs – reported to be listed on the potentially dangerous breed register.

Armed cops had to shoot both at the scene for fear of being attacked themselves.

Police are now searching the area for clues and for any sign of a weapon.

The man hasn’t yet been identified so his nationality isn’t known but he is thought to be in his 40s.

A police spokesman confirmed the man’s arm had been bitten off by the dogs and they were investigating the circumstances in relation to the stabbing.

He may have been attacked by a third party or inflicted the wounds himself when fighting off the dogs.
