‘Stay at home for less’: JT’s advice to Latrell

Rugby league legend Johnathan Thurston has issued a warning to Latrell Mitchell as the young centre undergoes a highly publicised contract saga.

According to a Courier-Mail report, Mitchell is said to be seriously weighing up a move to the Cowboys from the 2021 season onwards.

Despite the young star's potential move to Thurston's former team, the North Queensland legend questioned whether Mitchell would find at another club the same success he had achieved at the Roosters.

"When I was doing contract negations, you stay at home for less," Thurston told 9News.

"You want to get a good team around you and that's what we had to do.

"Obviously teams and clubs will throw money at him like they are, but will he have the same success as he is at the Roosters? That remains to be seen."

Cronulla legend Paul Gallen took a similar stance to his Origin rival.

Looking at the success of the Roosters, Gallen warned Mitchell whether "that extra $200,000" is worth it considering the risk of missing out on finals football.

"Let's be honest, the Roosters average a grand final every two years," Gallen said.

"He's going to be playing semi-finals football every year with the Roosters.

"If he goes somewhere else for that extra $200,000, he may not be play semi-finals football

"But if that's going to make him happy and play well, good on him.

"Once he matures a little bit more and stops floating in and out of games and becomes a more consistent player, he one of the game's premier players."
